Agency’s Highest Honor Celebrates Philanthropy
VICTORIA, Texas – July 17, 2015 – The Victoria County United Way presented LyondellBasell with its Spirit of Texas award. Considered the agency’s most prestigious corporate honor, the distinction recognizes companies and their employees who go above and beyond a successful campaign. The selection process takes into account volunteerism, employee participation, year-round education and campaign rallies.
"Much like the United Way, we are embedded in this community," said LyondellBasell Victoria Site Manager James Guynes. "The level of enthusiasm at our site is so strong because we know how many lives have been touched by the United Way. We see the results of their good work every day."
In the most recent drive, LyondellBasell employees in Victoria contributed more than $19,000. When coupled with the company match, the total climbed to more than $38,000, which will go directly to those in need.
"LyondellBasell and its Victoria site, under the leadership of James Guynes, are just a tremendous community leader and partner," explained Clifford Grimes, Victoria County United Way executive director. "LyondellBasell employees step up by volunteering, sharing their leadership skills, sitting on the boards of local agencies and running outstanding United Way campaigns that set the pace for other companies in our community."
The Victoria County United Way serves 30,000 people in six counties every year.
"To truly make a difference, it has to be about more than a financial contribution," added Guynes. "We also donate our time, energy and creativity. We set the bar high because we know that translates directly into helping those in our area."
