TUSCOLA, Illinois, June 2, 2017 – The Tuscola Plant of LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, recently announced donations totaling $62,529 to United Way of Central Illinois, United Way of Champaign County, and United Way of Decatur and Mid Illinois.
“United Way mobilizes the caring power of communities to advance the common good; LyondellBasell is proud to be a part of their vital work,” said Bob Patel, LyondellBasell CEO and chairman of the management board. “I am grateful for our employees across the U.S. who demonstrated their tremendous generosity during the company’s annual United Way campaign. Through their volunteer efforts and financial contributions, our employees exemplify our company’s mission to be a good neighbor in the communities where we operate.”
United Way of Coles County is providing funding for 36 programs this year. One of the programs is the Children’s Assistance Fund, which is run by local school social workers. This program gives social workers the means to assist children in the school system with school supplies, shoes, clothing and even food for families.
“We really cannot put into words how important the generosity of LyondellBasell and its employees is to our community,” said Carolyn Cloyd, Executive Director of United Way of Coles County. “Our county has one of the highest rates of poverty and a lot of people are struggling. People at LyondellBasell make it possible for us to provide the services so many people count on.”
In 2016, LyondellBasell held United Way campaigns at 23 company sites across the U.S. and raised a total of $2.65 million.
“United Way has touched the lives of many of our families, neighbors and friends in times of need," said Shawn Cullen, Tuscola site manager. "We're thankful we have the opportunity to give back to those who do so much for so many others."
