The LyondellBasell Matagorda Polymers Plant produces High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE is used to create a variety of products, which includes merchandise bags, trash can liners, cases and crates, pails, pressure and corrugated pipe, and liquid product containers. The plant is located in the heart of cowboy country on approximately 2,100 acres off TX Hwy 60, where the Matagorda Bay cattle drive transports herds back and forth to winter grazing pastures on the Matagorda Peninsula and back to Bay City during the summer.
The Matagorda Polymers Plant is an integral part of the local economy. The plant provides good paying and stable jobs in which workers live and shop in the local area for goods and services. Property taxes paid by LyondellBasell help support the local schools and government services. The plant also supports the community through donations to organizations such as Wharton County Junior College, Bay City Lions Club, and the Bay City Rotary Club.
The safety of the community, our operations and our employees is a primary focus. The Matagorda Polymers Plant aims for zero injuries, zero process safety incidents, zero product safety incidents, zero environmental incidents and zero plastic pellet loss to the environment. The LyondellBasell GoalZERO standards apply to all employees, contractors and suppliers performing work at the sites.
