MANSFIELD, Texas – Nov. 13, 2017 – Employee volunteers from LyondellBasell’s Mansfield compounding facility took to the grill on Friday to honor the service of local veterans.
Approximately 10 members of the LyondellBasell cook team wheeled in their smoker to the Mansfield American Legion Post 624 and cooked over 250 pounds of their signature brisket, sausage and chicken and served it to more than 100 veterans and family members. In addition to the barbeque, the spread included more than 20 homemade pies and about 50 pounds of corn, beans and potato salad.
“Veterans Day is very important to me personally and to our company,” said Brian Walker, operations manager for LyondellBasell’s Mansfield site and the organizer of the event. “We enjoy liberties and freedom here in this country that we wouldn’t have without the brave service of our veterans and that of our current military. This is our small way of giving back to thank them for their service and sacrifices.”
Among the veterans present at the event were about 15 employees of LyondellBasell. This Veterans Day, LyondellBasell salutes those who have served and the veterans who continue to serve with the company each and every day.
Veterans Day began in 1919 as Armistice Day, marking the date when Germany and the allies signed a 1918 agreement to cease World War I hostilities. After World War II, sentiment grew to make the day one of observance of all veterans, and in 1954 President Eisenhower signed a law that changed the name to its current form. Veterans Day is set aside to honor all those who served honorably in the military, whether in war or peace.
