CLINTON, Iowa April 12, 2019 – Education and industry were at the forefront of today’s visit of the LyondellBasell Clinton Complex as the company welcomed State Senator Chris Cournoyer (R-LeClaire). Senator Cournoyer joined students from Maquoketa High School for her first visit to the facility where the featured topic was careers in industry and educational pathways in advanced manufacturing through the Elevate Advanced Manufacturing statewide program.
“Conversations with elected officials like Senator Cournoyer always deliver great value,” said Jim Hillier, site manager of LyondellBasell Clinton Complex. “This was an opportunity for us to share how we advance products around the world responsibly and efficiently in our corner of Iowa. It’s also a chance to hear about priorities and challenges from our lawmaker. Having local students tour alongside the state senator was an added bonus, as they were able to see firsthand the careers available in their backyard.”
Senator Cournoyer, the students and teachers toured LyondellBasell’s recently built $50 million operations center, which features a state-of-the art control room, maintenance shops and testing laboratory. The group also heard first-hand from LyondellBasell leadership about career paths students could pursue.
“As the vice chair of education, it was beneficial to spend time at LyondellBasell and learn about the vast opportunities available at the site that include entry-level positions to management prospects,” said Senator Cournoyer. “Our local workforce supports their families and the Iowa economy with careers like LyondellBasell.”
The Clinton Complex employs over 400 workers and celebrated 50 years of operation last spring. In 2018, the Clinton Complex contributed over $62,000 in community donations. LyondellBasell, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world, was recently recognized on Fortune Magazine Most Admired Companies for the second year in a row.

About LyondellBasell’s Clinton Complex
With approximately 400 employees and contractors, and covering an area of almost 239 acres, the Clinton Complex is one of the largest chemical plants in Iowa. Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins are the building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable.
