The LyondellBasell Clinton Complex produces Ethylene and Propylene, Polyethylene (Low Density and High Density), and Plexar Tie-layer Resins. The materials from Clinton are used to create a variety of products, which includes household industrial bottles, pressure pipe, food packaging, outdoor durable goods, construction and roofing materials, and toys.
The operations at the Clinton Complex are unique because the equipment capabilities allow the facility to easily incorporate polymer resins that are blends of recycled material and newly produced material.
This complex is an integral part of the Clinton economy. The plant provides good paying and stable jobs in which workers live and shop in the local area for goods and services. Property taxes paid by LyondellBasell help support the local schools and government services. The Clinton Complex also supports the community through donations to organizations such as Grow Clinton, Victory Center, Clinton Schools, and Clinton First Responders, to name a few.
The safety of the community, our operations and our employees is a primary focus. The Clinton Complex aims for zero injuries, zero process safety incidents, zero product safety incidents, zero environmental incidents and zero plastic pellet loss to the environment. The LyondellBasell GoalZERO standards apply to all employees, contractors and suppliers performing work at the sites.
In 1965 American Can and Skelly Oil form Chemplex and selected the Clinton Complex for construction of a world-scale Olefins and Polyethylene complex. The newspaper article announcing this still hangs in the location today.
