Complex Wins 2013 Buddy Bayou Award

Environmental Stewardship Praised by Local Organization

The LyondellBasell Channelview Complex has received the 2013 Bayou Buddy Award by the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition.

The award, given out each year to a group that demonstrates significant stewardships in the Greens Bayou watershed, stems from the Channelview Complex’s project on Thomas Bell Foster Park in east Harris County. In 2013, during the company’s annual Global Care Day event, more than 100 volunteers from the site constructed a canoe launch, walking trails and benches.

“LyondellBasell has shown a true commitment to our mission and because of their work at the 2013 Global Care Day event they have opened up Greens Bayou for hundreds of their fellow Houstonians to enjoy,” Jill Boullion, Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition’s executive director said. “We are truly grateful for their partnership with Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition.”

Global Care Day is an annual event where company workers invest their time and talent to address specific community concerns. Last year, volunteers completed projects in 67 communities in 20 countries during the worldwide event.

“I was so proud of our volunteers’ hard work and effort during our project last year benefiting the park,” Lois Houston, LyondellBasell Channelview analyst and Global Care Day coordinator said. “The work we have done is something the entire community can enjoy and this honor is a testament to that.”

Plans are underway for this year’s Global Care Day project at the Channelview facility to include additional work at Thomas Bell Foster Park, including planting new trees and shrubs and completing other landscaping activities during the event in May.
