Botlek Site

About

The Botlek site went into operation in 1972 with the propylene oxide (PO)/tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) plant.

The site was expanded in the 1980's with a C4 plant, a MTBE plant and a PGE plant. The second major operating facility started up in 2002 and produces butanediol (BDO) as its primary product. Ongoing maintenance activities are continuously executed. Even today through larger projects and investments, the plants are kept up-to-date with the best available technology. As at all our locations, safety is our top priority.

Community

The site covers 48 hectares and is located at the Seinehaven in the Port of Rotterdam. The location has an independent inner harbor and its own train and truck terminal. The Rozenburg and Heenvliet communities are located near the site. A good relationship with the community is important to us. We built and maintain relationships with our local community representatives by participating in activities, such as the 'Klankbordgroep – Samenveiligwonenenwerken'.

Employment

There are approximately 220 employees at the site. Because the plants operate 24/7, employees work in shifts, either in the operations team or in the laboratory. Other departments include engineering, maintenance, logistics, health and safety and support functions.
