PASADENA, Texas - April 10, 2014 – The LyondellBasell Bayport Complex has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for its efforts in battling heart disease, the number one killer in the U.S. The Complex is the first company in Pasadena and the first chemical manufacturing facility in AHA’s Bayport/Galveston region to be honored as a “Fit Friendly Worksite.”
“I am proud to see the Bayport Complex receive this award from the American Heart Association,” says Bayport Choate Site Manager Doug Mathera. “We work in plants where a number of jobs take a significant amount of fitness to accomplish. The older I get, I see that fitness has a lot to do with the quality of people’s lives. When we are fit, we win at work and we win at life.”
Requirements for the honor include implementing physical activity criteria, offering nutrition education, providing fitness options such as walking trails and a workplace gym.
“LyondellBasell takes their employees’ health very seriously and it shows,” says Katy Pryor, director of the Galveston AHA. “The dedication they have towards heart disease prevention helps us fulfill our mission of creating a world free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. As a certified Gold Level Fit Friendly Company, LyondellBasell is making great strides towards healthy, happy and safe employees.”
“Heart attacks and strokes are among the top health risks in this country,” says Bayport Underwood and Bayport Polymers Site Manager Walter Pinto. “We want to do what we can to remove the risks and this recognition is a huge achievement given the number of workers we have. We are very proud of all of our workers, especially the medical team.”
The Bayport complex is comprised of three facilities in the Pasadena Industrial District.
