HOUSTON, June 11, 2012 -- Three LyondellBasell facilities have been recognized for excellence in safety, communications to community, emergency response, security and pollution prevention by the Texas Chemical Council (TCC).
The safety performance of the Bayport Choate Plant earned the Distinguished Service and Zero Incident Rate safety awards. It also took home a Caring for Texas Award. LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex earned an “Excellence in Caring for Texas” for the second year, and the Channelview Complex received a Caring for Texas Award. The awards for 2011 performance were presented June 7 at a ceremony in Galveston.
“We put safety and our community first and these awards acknowledge the outstanding performance of our employees,” said Courtney Ruth, La Porte Complex site manager. “LyondellBasell employees constantly strive for the best safety and environmental performance, and contribute to our communities through volunteer activities. These awards are a tribute to their commitment to excellence.”
TCC annually recognizes member companies for demonstrated commitment and exemplary results toward safe operations with its Safety Award Program, which includes the Distinguished Service, Zero Incident Rate and the Best in Texas. TCC members also are recognized for their performance in community awareness, emergency response, security and pollution prevention through the Caring for Texas Award Program.
Caring for Texas award applications are reviewed by a combination of community leaders and industry representatives across the state. To qualify, petrochemical sites must have operated the year without an environmental or safety event that impacted the community, engaged in community outreach activities, made available its environmental and safety performance reporting system to the community, had no fatalities and be a TCC member in good standing.
