LyondellBasell has a long history of supporting foodbanks in the communities where we operate through monetary donations, food collection drives and employee volunteerism.
As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads, foodbanks across the globe have experienced an increase in demand and a decline in food donations. Job loss has forced many people to seek help from foodbanks who have never needed relief before. In April 2020, we announced a $1.3 million donation to support the COVID-19 response efforts of the Global FoodBanking Network and United States local food banks. The donation supported food banks in 17 countries and communities where the company has major operations.
Food security was also the focus of our 21st Annual Global Care Day in October 2020. Employees and their families were offered two options to volunteer – virtually or in-person and implemented a series of precautions for safety. More than 80 LyondellBasell manufacturing facilities and office sites participated in the global event supporting 87 organizations by building micro food pantries, stocking shelves at local food pantries, collecting food donations, and organizing drive-through food banks for individuals in need.
