Shanghai, April 24, 2024 – LyondellBasell (LYB), a global leader in chemical innovation, and Zhengxin Packaging Co. Ltd, renowned for its expertise in producing PE (polyethylene) heat shrink film, have announced a collaboration to advance heat shrink film technology that is used for beverage bottles and tetra pack packaging. The new high-performance packaging solution utilizes LYB CirculenRecover PE sourced from post-consumer plastic waste. With recycled content potentially reaching up to 60% in heat shrink film, the collaboration offers one of the highest ratios in the industry, providing a compelling, sustainable solution.
The collaboration between both companies comes at a critical time when the demand for more sustainable packaging materials is on the rise. Leveraging cutting-edge LyondellBasell technology and Zhengxin’s extensive experience in film production, the collaboration addresses the challenges associated with traditional heat shrink films by improving performance stability while embracing sustainable practices through the incorporation of recycled content.
"At LyondellBasell, we are committed to driving innovation and sustainability across industries," said Limin Fu, VP Joint Venture Management & Polyolefins China at LyondellBasell. "Our collaboration with Zhengxin marks a significant milestone in our journey towards providing more sustainable solutions to conventional packaging materials. By integrating CirculenRecover PE, we are confident that we are delivering heat shrink films that maintain high performance whilst incorporating recycled materials.”
As an industry leader, Zhengxin has already spearheaded the commercialization of the heat shrink film product incorporating CirculenRecover PE, with several successful cases demonstrating their efficacy in real-world applications.
Commenting on the collaboration, Bill Huang, Board President at Zhengxin, stated, "We are thrilled to collaborate with LyondellBasell to pioneer more sustainable solutions for heat shrink film technology. By leveraging their advanced materials and expertise, we can overcome the challenges associated with integrating recycled materials into our products. This project not only reinforces our commitment to sustainability but also underscores our dedication to delivering superior quality to our customers."
