Joe Hoinkis, site manager of the LyondellBasell (LYB) Clinton Complex, was named Manager of the Year at the 2024 Grow Clinton annual meeting in June.
Grow Clinton is a local organization whose mission is to promote business growth, build community and advocate for the economic success of the Greater Clinton, IA region. Award recipients are nominated by community members and selected by a committee.
To be considered for the Manager of the Year award, nominees must be Grow Clinton members in good standing, involved in the Clinton community and Grow Clinton activities, and be a member of one or more community organizations.
“Joe Hoinkis has positively impacted the Greater Clinton region since taking over as site manager at the LYB – Clinton Complex,” said Grow Clinton president and CEO Andy Sokolovich. “It’s motivating to witness someone of his caliber attend ribbon-cutting events and community gatherings and have a position on the Grow Clinton Board of Directors.”
Melissa Eversmeyer, Grow Clinton treasurer and LYB lead manufacturing analyst, presented the award to Hoinkis at the event, attended by community members, local elected officials, and the Grow Clinton staff and board.
"I was completely surprised to receive this award," Hoinkis said. "I'm grateful for the community recognition, but I'm just trying to reflect the passion of the people at the Clinton Complex."
Eversmeyer praised Hoinkis for his efforts encouraging LYB employees to get involved. "Joe has fostered a spirit of community service among the site and has inspired others to volunteer their time, making a lasting impact on this community," she said.
Hoinkis has been with LYB since 1988 and relocated to live locally in the Clinton community when he was appointed site manager of the Clinton Complex in July 2022. He leads a team of about 400 employees and contractors, making the Clinton Complex one of Iowa's largest chemical plants.
"Our community here in Clinton is important to me, and our site can only be successful when we show up in our community," Hoinkis said. "The success and growth of our business and the communities in which we operate must go together."
“Living in the community you serve is an indicator of a dedicated professional,” said Sokolovich. “Joe resides in Clinton, and has chosen to make this town his home. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Joe and the LYB – Clinton team.”
