HOUSTON, TX – June 20, 2024 – LyondellBasell is proud to announce four of its U.S.
manufacturing facilities have been awarded some of the highest safety awards in the industry during the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers’ (AFPM) 2023 Annual Safety Awards event held last month. The AFPM Safety Awards Program is part of a comprehensive safety program developed to promote accident prevention in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries.

Exceptional occupational and process safety performance is part of who we are and receiving these prestigious awards signifies our commitment to safety,” said Chris Tagoe, Senior Vice President, Health Safety, and Environment.
The Elite Platinum Safety Award is among the most distinguished safety awards, which represents the top one to five percent of the industry’s safety performers. The LyondellBasell Lake Charles Louisiana Integrated PolyEthylene Joint Venture Site was the recipient of this award for its outstanding performance in 2023.

AFPM's Elite Gold Award, the second highest safety award, recognizes facilities with safety performance within the top 5% of industry, demonstrating excellent program innovation and leadership over time. The LyondellBasell Elite Gold Award recipients include the Matagorda Complex and the Corpus Christi Site.
“It’s an honor for the Corpus Christi Plant to receive the AFPM Elite Gold Award,” Corpus Christi Plant Manager Alicia Matus said. “Our employees are dedicated to working safely every day and this demonstrates CCO’s safety excellence. It is an elite recognition and confirms our consistent occupational and process safety performance and leadership in the industry.”
“It's an honor to have been selected for the AFPM Elite Gold award for the MTO plant,” Matagorda Site Manager Tim Carnell said. “Being a recipient of this award shows the everyday focus that each of our employees and resident contractors place on safety. This facility has gone multiple years without a safety incident and is a testament to our HSE processes and adherence to safety standards. We firmly believe that all incidents can be avoided and that a GoalZERO mentality of everyone in our facility is critical to continued success.”
AFPM's Elite Silver Award recognizes the top 10% of industry safety performance. The LyondellBasell Elite Silver Award recipient is the Victoria site.
“I am pleased to announce that the Victoria site was awarded the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers’ (AFPM) Elite Silver Safety Award for industry-leading occupational and process safety performance,” Victoria Plant Manager Heather Lasell said. “The site is being recognized for attaining top industry safety performance, demonstrated excellent program innovation, and leadership in 2023. Safety is everyone's responsibility and we are committed to a GoalZERO philosophy that all incidents are preventable. This is embedded in the Victoria site culture and we strive to meet that standard every day.”
