According to the World Instant Noodle Association, instant noodles are one of the most popular pre-cooked foods in the world with 80% of the supply being consumed in Asia. Although instant noodles were born in Japan, did you know that as many as 290 million servings are eaten globally every day? Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa have joined Asia as some of the top consumers, making instant noodles and the various unique flavors a global favorite.
While enjoying your favorite bowl of noodles, have you ever wondered how the noodles and flavoring packets keep its taste and quality? Though you will not see our name on the packaging, LyondellBasell plays a key role in helping to preserve one of your favorite meals and its flavor.
“Instant noodles are close to our hearts here in Asia,” said Rakhma Febriani, Regional Product and Application Development Manager for LyondellBasell’s Masterbatch Solutions. “I am proud to make food preservation possible by working together with customers to come up with innovative solutions for packaging.”
LyondellBasell’s Polywhite masterbatches helps create film opacity, replacing the need for white ink, which is traditionally used in instant noodle packaging. These white additives can prevent direct sunlight from going through the packaging and spoiling the food, allowing the noodles to retain quality and flavor during transportation and shelf storage.
LyondellBasell also provides antistatic masterbatches, such as Polybatch VLA, that can prevent the buildup of static electricity on the packaging’s surface. As a result, the instant noodles can be displayed on the shelf longer without picking up dust. Antistatic masterbatches can also be used in seasoning packages to ensure the free flow of powder ingredients during use, as well as in the manufacturing process, avoiding static charge during packaging for smooth production.
