Geleen

Pioneer in plastic recycling

Plastic waste is a valuable raw material. At our Geleen site, we give used plastic a new life by recycling as much plastic as possible and turning it back into high-quality products such as stylish packaging, modern strollers and trendy suitcases. LYB is committed to helping end plastic waste in the environment and advancing a circular economy.

Our approach

The mechanical recycling technology at our Geleen site has greatly improved the quality of recycled plastic and its application possibilities. We start by shredding and washing used plastic packaging like shampoo and butter containers. High-tech cameras then sort the "flakes" by color, after which we use various sorting techniques to purify the material. The material will then be heated and processed into plastic pellets.

Innovation is leading
At our Geleen site, we produce high-quality circular plastics that contribute to a sustainable future and our circular goal to produce and market¹ at least two million metric tons of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually worldwide by 2030. Our plastic recycling journey began in 2014 as QCP until LYB acquired QCP in 2023. Throughout our journey, we have worked with our partners and constantly innovated to become a pioneer in plastic recycling.

¹ Production and marketing includes (i) joint venture production marketed by LYB plus our pro rata share of the remaining production produced and marketed by the joint venture, and (ii) production via third-party tolling arrangements.
