LyondellBasell has been a pioneer in the development of gasoline additives based on the tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) molecule. Since the 1970s, these additives have been incorporated into gasoline to help meet increasing standards for cleaner burning fuels. In order to meet the needs of our customers, LyondellBasell's product line now includes gasoline grade methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), and ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE).
ETBE has a lower Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) and higher octane index than MTBE. Unlike ethanol, ETBE actually decreases evaporative emissions from gasoline and is fully fungible in existing gasoline distribution systems. ETBE is designed for use as a blending component in motor vehicle fuels.
